Webinar – Trauma Informed Modalities used for Substance Use Disorders

November 30, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Those working in the substance use and mental health arenas recognize the undeniable link between trauma and substance use disorder (SUD).  Countless individuals have endured various forms of trauma, as acknowledged by renowned scholar Gabor Mate, who contends that trauma is an intrinsic part of the human experience. Central to trauma therapy is the belief that revisiting these experiences in a non-traumatizing manner diminishes their power, enabling individuals to derive meaning and liberate themselves from unhealthy and dysfunctional patterns of thought and action, including addiction.

This webinar intricately delves into the symbiotic relationship between trauma and SUD, spotlighting fundamental principles of trauma therapy. We explore techniques that empower clients, equipping them with coping mechanisms and transformative healing strategies crucial to their journey toward recovery. Drawing inspiration from the profound insights of trauma specialists such as Victor Frankl, Edith Eger, and Bessel Van Der Kolk, we navigate through the terrain of Active Listening Skills, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). By unraveling the intricate threads that bind trauma and addiction, this webinar aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of trauma’s profound impact, empowering practitioners to support their clients with empathy and effectiveness on their path to healing and recovery from substance use disorder.

Objectives:

  1. To gain understanding of different trauma therapies that are effective with substance use disorder (SUD) clients.
  2. Develop knowledge to better assist clients in receiving appropriate mental health services.
  3. Learn about different techniques such as ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and Trauma Informed CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
