My relationship with alcohol started a long time ago. I had 20 years of sobriety until the summer of 2016. I started drinking very heavily, and in December of 2017, my best friend said that’s enough, you’re going to Mn Adult & Teen Challenge. I’m so grateful to her and my son. They saved my life.
I felt like no one wanted me, even God. I know that’s all the enemy, and the only hope I thought of was to take my life, to just not be here. Looking back, I realized that the enemy was not me, that it was the alcohol.
One night I had been so drunk that I fell. I remember hurting, I didn’t know why. Looking back, I realized I had fallen on the fireplace hearth, and I think that was the breaking point.
I felt that God didn’t care, but He showed me through my friends and family that he did care, and that gave me hope. That was my star moment where I said yes, I could reach for that. It’s out of my grasp right now, but I will reach it with His help.
At Mn Adult & Teen Challenge, I’ve been working through forgiveness; I’ve been working on forgiving people who wronged me, and I forgave myself for wronging a lot of people. I think forgiveness is probably one of the biggest things that gives us hope because it enables us to love.
I know that I am getting better. I’m becoming a better person, and because of that, I’m becoming closer to God.
Mn Adult & Teen Challenge has impacted my life in that I understand God and Jesus a lot more than I did. Mn Adult & Teen Challenge supporters not only support daily food, clothing and shelter, they support a person who gets to change their life through God. They get to change other people’s lives, and that is the hope that supporters are giving Mn Adult & Teen Challenge and the rest of the world.
