“Before I came to Lakeside, I was still in school. I’d wake up in the morning and get high. I’d bring drugs to school, go to the bathroom, and I’d smoke or snort some heroin.

It pretty much took me. It owned me. My life was very unmanageable after I started doing that. It destroyed many relationships, my grades went down and my attendance in school went down. I didn’t really have any hope.

I felt like I was existing instead of living. I was just another human being that didn’t really care. I I didn’t really want to live, but also didn’t want to commit suicide. I was just really lonely.

I wanted a new life. I was doing drugs but hating it at the same time, wanting to change, but just living the same thing over and over.

At Lakeside Academy, I started to think about my goals in life and what I actually wanted. I want to be happy, I want to help other kids in the situation that I was in. I want to go to school and become a defense attorney. I want to work with kids and just let them know that this isn’t the only way.

I think people see me and my potential. I’m able to do things and do big things if I actually want to and persevere through my challenges.

Hope is not living a wasteful life. It’s about living a life with direction and meaning, not just living the same thing over and over and over again.

I want other people to know that no matter how you are feeling, there is somebody out there that cares about you. There is somebody out there that wants to see you succeed, no matter how you feel. There will be somebody there.
