In 2006 MnTC developed a drug and alcohol prevention education program called Know the Truth. The primary focus of Know the Truth is to educate teenagers and adults on the reality of drug and alcohol use and addiction. Since its inception, Know the Truth has provided its programming to over 33,000 teenagers across the Twin Cities area, working with over 90 high schools and junior highs, as well as providing programming to hundreds of parents and adults.

The program works to offer teenagers an opportunity to interact with young adults who are current residents or recent graduates of MnTC, who have struggled with addiction and have overcome the incredible obstacles leading to recovery, focusing on the choices and encounters that these teenagers face day-to-day. In an effort to not only disseminate information, the program uses multi-media technology, discussion sessions, and interactive activities to highlight information on drugs and alcohol, the consequences of addiction, the process of recovery, realistic methods of abstinence and refusal, and the availability of counseling and other sources of help to those who need it. This program also aims to work with the adults involved in the students' lives (i.e. educators and family members) to educate and empower these individuals to take a proactive stance in communicating, monitoring, and building strong relationships with the students to further enhance their choice to abstain from substance use.
